One person died and two others were injured in a house fire early Thursday on Fields Road, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire was reported just after 1 a.m. Thursday at 1928 Fields Road, according to a news release.

Investigators said three people were in the home at the time of the fire. One was unaccounted for, and two were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries, the release said.

After the fire was extinguished, investigators found the remains of the third victim, the release said. That person’s name was withheld pending notification of family.

Sheriff’s deputies responded along with crews from the Fayetteville Fire Department and the Vander Fire Department, the release said.

Detective R. Tyndall, an arson investigator, said there is no evidence of wrongdoing in how the fire started. The Sheriff's Office routinely investigates fires resulting in serious injuries or death.
