A man was killed in a hit-and-run Friday afternoon in the parking lot at Carlson Bay Apartments off Cliffdale Road, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

The driver of the car, Sukara Wiggs, 18, was charged Monday with felony hit and run, misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed, according to a news release from the Police Department.

Mark E. Morris, 46, was struck by a vehicle driven by Wiggs as he was walking across the parking lot at the apartment complex, which is in the 3500 block of Carlson Bay Circle, the release said. The incident was reported to the Police Department at 1:35 p.m. Friday.

Officers found Morris injured, and he was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was later pronounced dead, the release said.

Investigators say Wiggs was driving a gold Nissan Altima at a high rate of speed while leaving the apartment complex when she fatally struck Morris and fled the scene. Morris and Wiggs did not know each other, the news release said.

Wiggs is being held at the Cumberland County Detention under a $20,000 secured bond.
