3 killed, 1 critically injured in traffic collision on Murchison Road

Three people were killed in a traffic collision at Murchison and Shaw Mill roads Saturday afternoon, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

The crash was reported about 5:15 p.m. Saturday in the area of Murchison and Harbor roads, a police news release said.

The three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Another person was injured and in critical condition, the release said. 

Investigators said the crash involved a Nissan Frontier pickup and a Mercedes Benz. The Nissan was traveling westbound on Murchison Road when it crossed into the path of the Mercedes Benz, which was traveling eastbound.  

The driver of the Nissan, Stephen May, 38, died of his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with serious injuries and is in critical condition.

The passengers in the Mercedes also died of their injuries at the scene. They were identified as Martell Jones, 52, and Timothy Bradshaw, 64.

Murchison Road from Country Club to Shaw Mill roads was closed while investigators assessed the scene.
