ABBA tribute show welcomes disco’s ‘dancing queens’ to Crown Theatre

Posted

“Direct From Sweden: The Music of ABBA” will bring “Mama Mia” to the Crown Theatre on Saturday night.

The show, part of the 87th season of the Community Concerts series, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the theater at 1960 Coliseum Drive. Tickets range from $38 to $78, according to the Crown Complex website.

The show recreates the disco-era sensation’s attention to costumes, makeup and musical arrangements, the website says.

With more than 400 million records sold, ABBA is Sweden’s biggest export ever. The band’s music was featured in the Broadway musical and film “Mamma Mia,” becoming a stage classic when it hit American stages in 2000.

The cast pays tribute to the original band members, presenting solos, energetic musical numbers, and a live band with back-up singers.

ABBA’s hits include “Dancing Queen,” “Chiquitita,” “Waterloo,” “Mamma Mia,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Fernando,” “SOS,” “Take a Chance,” “Money Money Money,” “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” and “Voulez-Vous.”
