Fayetteville chamber soliciting nominations for ‘Local Hero’ award
The Greater Fayetteville Chamber is soliciting nominations from the public for its “Local Hero’’ award, which will be presented as part of its Public Safety & Valor Awards later this year.
This is the fifth year the chamber has presented its Public Safety & Valor Awards, which recognize public safety officials, including police, fire and emergency medical technicians, in three categories. They are:
The "Local Hero" award is new this year and relies on nominations from the public. The deadline to submit a nomination is Sept. 5. The selection committee will review the nominations and select one to award at the event.

Highland Construction and Manna Church have been the presenting sponsors each year of the awards program. This year's event is scheduled for Oct. 18 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Cliffdale campus of Manna Church.
Stout & Booth Orthodontics is now MyOrthodontist
MyOrthodontist has opened its newest orthodontic care office in Fayetteville.
The office is accepting new patients at 222 Fairway Drive, formerly Stout & Booth Orthodontics. Residents of Fayetteville and the surrounding area will have access to orthodontic treatment that includes metal and ceramic braces, clear aligner orthodontics, 3-D imaging, and virtual, remote orthodontic treatment, a release said.
“It has been our pleasure to serve this community for the past 50 years as a 5-star family orthodontist,’’ Dr. Rick Booth of Stout & Booth said in the release. “I have had the privilege of meeting a great many people and developing life-long friendships with many patients. But now it is time for me to retire and entrust new people to carry on my legacy.”
Dr. Spencer Marsh will be the primary orthodontist beginning Aug. 22 at the Fayetteville location. He’s been practicing orthodontics since 2018 and earned his undergraduate and dental degree in biology from the University of Buffalo. He completed his masters in orthodontics at UT San Antonio, where he graduated as the chief resident, the release said.

Crown Complex hosting job fair Aug. 23
The Crown Complex is hosting a job fair on Aug. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Crown is looking to hire people for a number of positions, including security and event staff; concession cashiers, banquet servers, cooks and bartenders for its hospitality division; and part-time ticket sellers for the box office.
Those who attend should bring a valid ID and a current resume. Interviews will be conducted on-site.

Cape Fear Valley receives heart award
Cape Fear Valley Medical Center has received the Get With The Guidelines – Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association, the hospital system said in a release.
The award recognizes a hospital’s commitment to ensuring heart failure patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, the release said. The goal is to speed recovery and reduce hospital readmissions for heart failure patients, the release said.
Hospitals that are recognized must demonstrate compliance with these performance measures at a set level for a year. The measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and aggressive-risk-reduction therapies, the release said.
Before discharge, patients should also receive education on managing heart failure and overall health, schedule follow-up visits, and learn other transition interventions, the release said.
