FSU professor receives Fulbright education award
Todd Frobish, a professor and chairman of the Department of Communication, Languages and Cultures in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Fayetteville State Unversity, has received a Fulbright International Education Administrators award, the college said in a release.
Frobish will visit colleges and universities in Germany to learn about the country’s higher education system. His time there could lead to student study abroad and faculty exchange opportunities for FSU, the release said.
“I am honored and thrilled to be selected by the Fulbright U.S. Scholars Program for this prestigious award,” Frobish said in the release. “It’s critically important to prepare our students for global citizenship. This experience will help me as a faculty member and mentor to our students to better serve and guide them toward international experiences as well as collaborate with colleagues globally.”
The university recently announced that Afua Arhin — dean of the Lloyd College of Health, Science and Technology — was a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program honoree in nursing for the 2022-23 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Arhin will conduct research related to infant nutrition in developing countries, the release said.

Developer Workshop set for Thursday
The city of Fayetteville is holding a Developer Workshop Thursday at 10 a.m. at Fayetteville Technical Community College’s Center for Business and Industry, 2723 Fort Bragg Road.
Organizations interested in applying for funding from the city to address the need for affordable rental housing are encouraged to participate, the city said in a release. For-profit or nonprofit corporations, individuals, general or limited partnerships or limited liability companies will benefit from the workshop, the release said.
The Developer Workshop is part of the city’s strategy to create more affordable housing within Fayetteville, the release said. The City Council recently authorized the Economic and Community Development Department to release a Notice of Funding Availability for more than $12 million in gap financing for the construction, acquisition and rehabilitation of affordable rental housing.

FSU Foundation receives $50K Enterprise Holdings award
The Fayetteville State University Foundation was among the organizations to recently receive funding through the Enterprise Holdings’ ROAD Forward grant initiative.
This is the second year that Enterprise Holdings awarded its ROAD Forward grants to nonprofit organizations, the company said in a release. It announced $211,000 to 10 nonprofits in the Southeast region, including $50,000 to the Fayetteville State University Foundation, the release said.
A spokeswoman for Enterprise Holdings said the foundation plans to provide expanded scholarship opportunities for students at the institution for necessary expenses. It also intends to expand the number of students who have access to its leadership institute, which targets student-athletes, the spokeswoman said.
The Enterprise Holdings ROAD Forward initiative works to drive change in three key areas: early childhood development, youth health and wellness, and career and college preparation, the release said.
Cumberland County Schools conducting bus survey
Cumberland County Schools is asking families to complete an online survey on school bus transportation needs for the 2022-23 school year.
The survey must be completed by Aug. 3 in order to be included in the initial bus route for the first day of school, which is Aug. 9 for early colleges and Aug. 29 for traditional schools, the district said in a release.
Students whose families complete the survey and are eligible for transportation will be assigned to a bus, and routing information will be available at the school's open house, the release said
