Cape Fear Regional Theatre presents Tony-winning musical ‘Matilda’

Cape Fear Regional Theatre will present the Tony Award-winning show “Matilda the Musical” through Feb. 19.

The musical had a preview performance Thursday night.

Performances for Friday through Sunday are sold out, according to the theater’s website, but they will return for Wednesday-Saturday shows at 7 p.m. on Feb. 1-4, 8-11 and 15-18.

In addition, 2 p.m. matinees are scheduled for Sundays, Feb. 5, 12 and 19, the website says.

“Matilda” is the story of an extraordinary girl who loves books, according to the website. Her vivid imagination inspires her to become the hero of her own story.

The musical is based on a book by Roald Dahl. In 2013, it won Tony Awards for best book of a musical, best featured actor (Gabriel Ebert), and best scenic design and lighting design in a musical.

Cape Fear Regional Theatre is at 1209 Hay St. Tickets are $15 to $28.
