Christopher Jason Forbes 52, of Fayetteville, N.C., passed away February 28, 2023, in hospice care surrounded by his family. The family is deeply saddened by his unexpected illness and sudden decline.

He was born in Fayetteville to Gilbert Forbes and Janice Forbes (Mercer) on Aug. 18, 1970. He grew up in Fayetteville with his brother, Eric Forbes, and sister, Heather Glasgow (Forbes), playing hockey and scaring his little sister with his hockey mask, playing hide-and-seek in the corn stalks, riding motorcycles, swimming in our pool with friends and family, hunting with his father and brother, and spending many weekends at the beach, water skiing and fishing with his family. He attended Terry Sanford High School (Class of 1988), where he developed lifelong friendships.

After high school, Jason attended Pembroke State University for a year and then decided he needed a break from school. He went into construction for a little while. Later, he got an associate degree in gunsmithing from Montgomery Community College in Troy, N.C. He felt that gunsmithing was not right for him either. In July 2012, Jason went to Alaska as a missionary and worked with Alaskan youth. This was his calling. He loved God and loved helping people. He went on to graduate from Carolina Bible College with a bachelor of arts in biblical studies degree. While attending Carolina Bible College, he also earned an associate of arts in biblical studies, a youth skills diploma, mission skills diploma, and counseling skills diploma.

Jason was ordained as a deacon at Stoney Point Baptist Church in September 2018. He also served as the Sunday school coordinator. He worked at Hidden Treasures. He enjoyed going to auctions and his favorite Mexican restaurant and spending time with his friends.

He loved God just a tiny bit more than he loved his mother, and he loved his brother and sister and nephews. He loved his church and enjoyed being there and working there.  He loved his dogs, Buddy and Roxie. Buddy was truly Jason’s buddy and Roxie was his new sweet German shepherd puppy. He also loved his friends and enjoyed spending time with them.

Jason was predeceased by his father, Gilbert Forbes; his grandmothers, Elaine Mercer and Katherine Shaffer; and his uncle, Detrace Mercer.

He is survived by his mother, Janice Forbes Godwin; his brother, Eric Forbes; his sister, Heather Glasgow; nephews, Stephen “Dru” Forbes, Dylan Glasgow, and Haiden Glasgow; numerous cousins, aunts, and uncle;, and his dog, Buddy, and puppy, Roxie.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Stoney Point Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
