CityView News Fund holds contest for student journalists

Posted

CityView News Fund is sponsoring its first Scholastic Journalism Week contest.

Journalism students are invited to submit one article for a chance to be showcased on the CityView website and in the CityView daily newsletter as well as meet members of the CityView editorial team.

Five students will be selected as winners.

Here are the guidelines for students taking part:

  • Follow Associated Press writing style.
  • Use at least one cited source.
  • Write between 150 and 300 words.
  • Submit content that is related to the Greater Fayetteville area.
  • Be an enrolled student at a high school, college or university in Cumberland County.
  • Submit a story to cityview@cityviewnc.com by 5 p.m. Feb. 17. Include the writer’s name, school, age and phone number.

Winners will be notified at 5 p.m. Feb. 19 and told the day their story will be on the CityView Daily Newsletter and details on the meet-and-greet with editorial team members. Winners who are younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian with them to attend the meet-and-greet.

The Journalism Education Association has scheduled Scholastic Journalism Week for Feb. 20-24.

CityView News Fund is the nonprofit arm of CityView Media that supports local news coverage that is distributed free of charge. CityView's Daily Briefing is distributed to more than 50,000 readers each morning.
