City Manager Doug Hewett and City Attorney Karen McDonald earned favorable reports Monday night during a closed session with the Fayetteville City Council.
The session was a semi-annual “touchpoint” review facilitated by Deborah Manzo, according to Hewett, who has been city manager since 2016. Manzo is a consultant who also has worked with the city in the past on its annual strategic planning sessions. She is a retired faculty member from N.C. State University.
The reason for the special session was personnel, according to the meeting notice. The council took no action when it came out of the closed session.
“We got a very ambitious work plan,” Hewett, 51, said after the session at the FAST Transit Center. “It’s nice to check in with the council to move forward.”
Hewett earns an annual salary of $240,676, according to Jodi Phelps, director of Corporate Communications for the city.
“We just want to continue with improvements to customer service,” Hewett said, including solid waste collections, bus service, building permitting and other services provided by the city.
Hewett is the ninth city manager in modern history and has worked for the city since 2004, with the exception of 2012 to 2015. He is a former assistant city manager.
“I always appreciate council” reviews, McDonald, 54, said after the session.
McDonald earns an annual salary of $197,165. She has been the city attorney since 2002.
