Cumberland sheriff: Man charged after exposing himself at elementary school

Posted

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said it has charged a Fayetteville man with exposing himself at Sherwood Park Elementary School on Wednesday.

Tommy Lee Watson, 31, was charged with attempted second-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping and indecent exposure, the Sheriff’s Office said in a release late Friday. Watson was booked at the Cumberland County Detention Center where he is being held on a $100,000 secure bond, the release said.

Just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, deputies received a report from a woman jogging around the school.

A man approached the jogger, exposed himself and then charged at the woman, the Sheriff’s Office said. The man then demanded that the woman get on the ground.

The woman ran away and flagged down a Fayetteville police officer who was in the area for an unrelated call, the release said. The Police Department used a dog to try and find the man but was not successful.
