Daryl Tew


Daryl Bradley Tew, affectionately known as Wheatie, peacefully entered the arms of angels on December 1,2023 at the age of 37, marking the end of his brave journey with Huntington’s disease. Daryl’s indomitable spirit and unwavering love leaves an enduring legacy in the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by his mother, Diana Tew, residing in Erwin, his devoted sister Sheila Ferguson(Bob) of Bunnlevel, and his brother Stacey Tew of Aberdeen. Daryl leaves behind his nephew Michael Ferguson (Steffanii), his niece Megan Burgess (Scott), along with three great nephews and one great niece. In addition, he is survived by a number of uncles and dedicated aunts, including Donna Haywood and Carolyn Johnson Wrench. He was preceded in death by his father, James C. Tew. Throughout his remarkable journey, Daryl touched countless lives with his boundless love, kindness, and compassion. Despite the formidable challenges posed by his illness, he faced each day with an infectious smile that radiated positivity. Daryl’s unyielding optimism served as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging those around him to embrace the beauty of life. In the face of adversity, Daryl forged meaningful connections and formed lasting friendships. We extend heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate healthcare professionals who became an integral part of his extended family, with a special acknowledgement to John Walker and Mary Dolkos. Mr. John, a true friend, developed a brotherly bond with Daryl, treating him with dignity and respect. Daryl appreciated the moments of shared laughter, music and conversations about life’s joys. Ms. Mary, a comforting presence in his final days, enveloped him in love and compassion until his last moments on earth. Daryl enjoyed all things WWE, bravely wrestling with his ailment much like the champions he admired. His infectious enthusiasm for life and his unique ability to find joy in simple pleasures will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of Daryl’s life will be held in late January 2024. As we bid farewell to Daryl, may his memory continue to inspire us to embrace life’s challenges with love, resilience, and unwavering optimism.
