FTCC to hold Youth Dental Health Fair

Posted

Fayetteville Technical Community College will host a free Youth Dental Health Fair on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Horace Sisk Gymnasium.

Students from FTCC’s Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting programs will provide free dental screenings for children ages 3-12, the school said in a release. The event will also include educational presentations, special guest appearances and prizes.

The event is sponsored by a grant from the United Way Youth Trust and is possible through the support of Crest, Oral-B and P&G Professional Oral Health, the release said.

Michelle Ping, FTCC’s dental division chair, and Dental Hygiene instructor Jessica Jones attained the grant and organized the fair.

Ping said the event will provide each child and family with a basic foundation of proper oral health care while giving FTCC students the chance to gain real-world experience.

“Statistics in North Carolina indicate approximately one-quarter of kindergarten-aged children suffer from untreated tooth decay,” Ping said in the release. “This dental health program will serve a dual purpose: educating the youth within our community and aiding curriculum students by providing an opportunity to perform community dental health services.”
