Gertrude Catherine (Cable) Schultz

Gertrude C. Schultz, 93, of Fayetteville, NC passed away Friday, February 4, 2022, at home after a lengthy illness.

  Gertrude was born July 10, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY to George and Evelyn Cable.  As a kid, she went by Trudy or Sunshine.

  She had a sister, Carol (deceased) and a brother, George (KIA, Battle of Saipan).

  Gertrude met Bill Schultz at a square dance in 1952, and they married after a brief courtship. 

  Bill’s career with the US Army took them to Germany and Okinawa.  They were blessed by 3 sons; Shawn, Hans, and Willie, who survive her.   Bill passed in 2010.

  During World War II, Gertrude volunteered as a Civil Defense Aircraft Spotter, and she was stationed on a hotel roof in Kingston, NY.  No German bombers were spotted.

  Later, she worked as a Button Holer in Kingston, at a factory (Swingline) which made shirts.

  Much later, in Fayetteville, NC, she worked for Cumberland County Schools Cafeteria, at W.H. Owen Elementary, and 71st High School.

  Much much later, she was a Receptionist and Girl Friday for S & S Tree Service.

   In addition to her sons, she is survived by Nephew Lawrence Kubicek, Granddaughter Courtney and Grandson Rudolf, and Great Grandchildren, Benjamin, Thomas, and Julianne.

  The family would like to express thanks to Healthkeeperz Hospice, in particular, Betty Monroe and Ramona Townsend, and HomeInstead.

   A Visitation will be held at 9:15 Am to 10:15 Am on Monday, February 14, 2022, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 Am at Rogers and Breece Chapel on Monday, February 14, 2022, with Reverend Damien officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.

  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church.
