Hope Mills woman accused of stabbing husband in chest

A Hope Mills woman faces attempted murder and assault charges after being accused of stabbing her husband early Saturday, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.

Around 2:45 a.m., deputies responded to the 1800 block of Gumberry Court in Hope Mills in reference to a stabbing. 

The preliminary investigation showed that Delia Lynn Branch, 45, had stabbed 67-year-old Joseph Branch in the chest, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Joseph Branch was being treated for life-threatening injuries at a local hospital but was in stable condition Saturday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Delia Branch was charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill. She is being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center due to the domestic violence charges, the Sheriff’s Office said.
