Hope Mills woman charged in death of 8-month-old baby, Sheriff’s Office says

A Hope Mills woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 8-month-old baby, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives on Monday arrested Jana Gabrielle Shaw, 21, on charges of first-degree murder and felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Shaw’s 8-month-old baby died of injuries on Oct. 21, 2022, at UNC Chapel Hill Medical Center, the release said.

Shaw is being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center. Her first appearance in court is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
