A contracted nurse working at the Cumberland County Detention Center has been charged with engaging in sex acts with an inmate, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Jean Rodriguez, 32, of Hope Mills, is charged Thursday with five counts of sexual acts by a custodian, according to a news release.

Rodriguez worked at the jail as a licensed practical nurse through Southern Health Partners Inc., the release said. She provided routine medical care to detainees, the release said.

She was held at the Detention Center on a $250,000 secured bond and was scheduled for a first appearance in court Friday afternoon.

The investigation began on April 5 when another employee of Southern Health Partners reported concerns about possible inappropriate employee conduct. More charges may be forthcoming, the news release said.

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact Lt. F. Milefski of the Major Crimes Investigative Unit at 910-677-5511 or CrimeStoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477) or http://faynccrimestoppers.org.
