Man arrested in weekend shooting in motel parking lot

Posted

A man who fired at least 15 shots at a woman in a motel parking lot Sunday morning has been arrested, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives had been looking for Dustin Goode and 33-year-old April Gowin of Hope Mills since the shooting was reported just before 11:30 a.m. at the Coliseum Inn on Gillespie Street. The Sheriff’s Office said the woman who was shot at, believed to be Gowin, got into a vehicle with Goode and the two left. It was unclear at the time if Gowin was injured, but the Sheriff’s Office said she was believed to be in danger.

Goode and Gowin were found in Sampson County shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday by the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office. Someone called the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office with a tip about the car’s location after reading about the incident on social media, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Goode and Gowin were attempting to conceal the bullet holes in the vehicle with duct tape when they were located,’’ the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

They were taken into custody on outstanding warrants in Cumberland, Hoke and Sampson counties, the release said.

Gowin did not appear to have any injuries, the release said.

Cumberland County detectives took out warrants charging Goode with possession of a firearm by a felon, attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill in the shooting at the Coliseum Inn, the release said.

Goode, 29, of Fayetteville, is being held without bond at the Sampson County Detention Center. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Sgt. J. McLeod at 910-677-5563 or Crimestoppers at 910- 483-TIPS (8477).
