Motorcyclist traveling above 125 mph killed in Reilly Road crash, police say

A motorcycle driver who was fleeing from police at speeds above 125 mph was killed in a collision on North Reilly Road on Thursday, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

Officers tried to stop the motorcyclist about 10:30 a.m. Thursday after he was clocked at 125 mph in a 45-mph zone on Cliffdale Road, according to a police news release.

The driver increased his speed, and officers ended their pursuit out of concern for the safety of the motorcyclist and the public, the release said.

About 11 a.m., a car pulling onto North Reilly Road from Dandridge Drive collided with the speeding motorcycle, the release said. The motorcycle driver was thrown from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorcyclist’s identity was withheld until the family has been notified.

The driver of the car was not injured, the release said.
