Red Cross puts out call for blood donors

The American Red Cross is asking for blood donations, citing  a shortfall of  26,000 fewer blood donations than needed in May to meet the needs of patients, according to a news release.

The organization says platelet donors are especially needed .

There are four upcoming opportunities to give blood in Fayetteville:

  • Noon-6 p.m. June 19,, American Red Cross Sandhills Chapter, 807 Carol St.
  • 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m June 23, Navy Federal Credit Union, 2430 Two Bale Lane.
  • 12:30-6:30 p.m. June 28, Tony Rand Student Center, Fayetteville Technical Community College, 2220 Hull Road.
  • 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 30, Cross Creek Subaru, 497 N. McPherson Church Road.

June 14 is World Blood Donor Day, a day meant to raise awareness of the need for a safe, diverse and stable blood supply and to recognize volunteer blood donors, the news release said.

As thanks to donors, all who give blood, platelets or plasma through June 30 will receive a $10 gift card by email good at a merchant of their choice, the release said. Donors also will be entered for a chance to win a backyard theater package, the release said. Details for both offers can be found at RedCrossBlood.org/June.
