FAYETTEVILLE CITY COUNCIL

Council to discuss Murchison Choice grant, Fay Block rezoning expansion at Monday meeting

Posted

The Fayetteville City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

Here’s what’s on the agenda

    • Murchison Choice grant application: Fayetteville, in partnership with various stakeholders, is applying for the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development’s Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant to revitalize the Murchison neighborhood. As part of the city’s ongoing efforts to develop the Murchison Road corridor, the grant funds would be used to rebuild distressed public housing in the neighborhood. The council will decide on whether to authorize the mayor and city manager to sign documents to support the grant and to affirm the city’s commitment to its grant partners.
    • 2024 federal action agenda: The council will consider adopting a draft proposal of the city’s legislative priorities to share with federal representatives for this year. The draft agenda includes priorities for a number of issues in Fayetteville, including initiatives to support economic development, the military, public infrastructure and transportation, public safety and quality of life.
    • Fay Block public hearing: Fay Block Materials, a family-owned masonry business with an on-site storage facility in north Fayetteville, wants to expand its storage yard by 1.4 acres via a rezoning request to the city. Neighbors have opposed the rezoning, citing ongoing environmental and health concerns about the business’ operations in their neighborhood. The public hearing Monday will give both sides the chance to argue their case.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 433 Hay Street. The meeting will be aired on Spectrum Cable Channel 7 and live-streamed at faytv.net
