FAYETTEVILLE CITY COUNCIL

County homeless shelter hearing to take place Monday

Posted

The Fayetteville City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

Here’s what’s on the agenda for Monday:

  • Homeless shelter hearing: The council will hold an evidentiary hearing to consider granting a special use permit for Cumberland County’s proposed homeless shelter in Fayetteville. The county plans to construct the shelter in four adjoining properties off of Grove Street between B Street and Hawley Lane, adjacent to the former Pauline Jones Elementary School. It will provide temporary overnight shelter for unhoused people, as well as access to support programs and resources.
  • Public forum: Monday’s meeting will have a public comment period. Individuals interested in speaking during the public comments period must sign up beforehand. The public forum is limited to 30 minutes and each speaker is allocated three minutes.
  • Public hearings: Two public hearings on conditional rezoning of properties.
  • Policy recommendations: The council will review minor changes recommended by the City Council Policy Committee in relation to public forum rules and board and commission membership removal
  • Official meetings time change: The council will decide whether to adopt an official amendment to the city’s ordinance on meeting times. If approved, regular council meetings will now begin at 6:30 p.m. as opposed to 7 p.m. and work sessions will now begin at 2 p.m. instead of 5 p.m.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 433 Hay St. The meeting will be aired on Spectrum Cable Channel 7 and live-streamed at faytv.net.
