Office sought: Cumberland County Board of Commissioners District 2

Party affiliation:  Republican

Lives: Fayetteville

Age: 40

Works: I am Co-Owner of Tyson Commercial Real Estate & The Hub of Fayetteville. At Tyson Commercial we provide guidance to clients on commercial property sales and leases as well as contract negotiation. At The Hub we provide a membership based community model space solution for teleworkers and small business startups.

What’s your motivation for seeking office? We all come to a moment or place in time where we realize that we have the opportunity to help make a difference. It is my strong belief that when these opportunities present themselves we should capture them. The reason I'm running for The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners is simply to serve. I asked the voters of the community to allow the opportunity to serve the County where I was born and raised, the community I love, and the place were I want my family to call home for generations to come.

What uniquely qualifies you to serve? As a owner of multiple small businesses I know what it takes to budget and plan for the future. I spend every day negotiating contracts and serving our clients in the community. My service includes serving on the City of Fayetteville's Historic Resources Commission, The Government Relations Committee For the Fayetteville Chamber, and The Legislative Action Committee for The local Board of Realtors. I am a Campbell University graduate with a BA in Government and Political Science.

Fill in the blank: The top three issues in my municipality/district are ____, ____ and ____; and I would promote positive change by _____: The top three issues in my district are Public Safety, The High Level of Taxes, Lack of Utility Infrastructure in the County; and I would promote positive change by:

• PUBLIC SAFETY: All Cumberland County residents deserve to know that their government is doing everything in it's power to keep the community safe. Policies i would promote include giving county administrators resources for maintaining a state of the art 911 center, encouraging more collaboration between the Sheriff's department and City of Fayetteville Police, and supporting our firefighters and EMS personnel with the funding they need to continue their mission.

• TAXES: We are currently one of the top 10 highest taxed counties in the state but are consistently ranked in the bottom 1/3 of all 100 counties in NC relating to economic growth and development. We must look to make good sound budgetary decisions so that we can be more competitive across the state and provide relief to our tax payers.

• UTILITY INFRASTRUCTURE: The ability to grow our community and create more job opportunities here starts with expanding our utilities access. Industries must have access to the utilities it needs to do business and attract them to our locale. Additionally, with county water quality issues at play there is a real need to make sure our residents have access to clean and safe water for their families. Expansion of services makes sense for our economic prosperity as well as our community safety.

What new policies or practices would you bring to your municipality/district that do not already exist? Incentive Based Pay Standards for County Employees- In the private sector metrics are used to determine how well employee performance ranks and typically in that structure the employees that work hard and give excellent customer service are rewarded with bonuses and pay increases. The idea is work hard and do a great job get rewarded with more opportunity for higher pay. Value Engineering On County Projects- Commission third party reviews of county construction projects and build that into our contracting process. This principle would help to make sure that once contracts are awarded the county is getting the best value from its vendor without a conflict of interest on the information received.
