Hope Mills board to consider new fee schedule for parks, marquee rentals

Posted

HOPE MILLS — The Board of Commissioners on Monday will consider an amendment to its policy and fees on park rental space and marquee advertisements.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Town Hall.

In the board’s agenda packet, Parks & Recreation Director Lamarco Morrison writes that there has been a substantial increase in requests from local vendors and civic groups to host special events in park space in Hope Mills.

Morrison’s department has proposed an amendment to the fee schedule for park rental permits. He says the increased use has causes “a substantial increase in operational cost, staff support, equipment, and other resources.”

“The park rental application and associated fees will be used in lieu of the special events permit application, where vendors and civic groups request to reserve park space and do not require a tremendous amount of support from town staff or the use of town resources,” Morrison says in his memo.

Morrison says the demand for advertising on the town’s marquees at Hope Mills Lake and John W. Hodges Public Safety Center also has increased.

“Like the increase in park rental requests, there has been a substantial increase in requests from local businesses, vendors, and citizens to advertise on the town’s digital marquees,” writes Morrison.

The recreation department has proposed a revised advertisement policy and fee schedule.

Also Monday, the board will consider two annexation cases.

At its June 20 meeting, the board voted to accept a petition for a contiguous annexation of 1.198 acres at 7163 Rockfish Road. The board will now vote to schesule a public hearing on the annexation request.

Also, the board will consider a voluntary annexation request from JSJ for a contiguous area of 32.44 acres along Muscat Road, which will be Phase 6 of Sheffield Farms. If approved Monday, the board will instruct the town clerk to review the request.
