Myrtle (McClure) Packer

Ms. Myrtle McClure Packer, of Fayetteville, passed away May 25, 2022.  Myrtle was the daughter of the late Charles T. McClure and Pearl Culbreth McClure and was the youngest of 6 brothers and 2 sisters.  She was born in Waycross, GA.  She moved with her family to White Oak, NC when she was 3 years old.  She attended White Oak School and Louisburg Jr. College.

Myrtle worked with Carolina Telephone Company until retirement.  After raising her family, she returned to work with the Cumberland County Tax Mapping Department.  After time with the mapping department, she worked as a Deputy Clerk with the Cumberland County Register of Deeds where she retired after 20 years of service.

She was married to the late Luther Neil Packer in 1950.  She is survived by their 4 sons, Neil Packer, Jr. and wife Angela of Fayetteville, Randy Packer and wife Angie of Charlotte, Gary Packer and wife Janet of Hamlet, Terry Packer and wife Janet of Bay Tree Lake; three grandsons, Wyatt, Elijah and Zeb Packer; five granddaughters, Chelsey and Laurel Packer, Chelsie Jordan, Amber Elalami, and Lauren Russell; four great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, MaeVonne McClure of Norman, OK.

Myrtle was active in school, church and community service while raising her family.  She was a member of Hay Street United Methodist Church.

We are all better for having known this gracious lady who will be remembered for sharing her love and all she had with others in such a generous and loving way. 

The family will receive friends at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home on Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 11 am to 11:45 am prior to the 12:00 pm service in the Chapel.  Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
