Raquel Hill Dubreuil passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024.
Raquel was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Master SGT Edmond Joseph Dubreuil; brothers, Ricardo Batista, Visitacion Batista, and Fernando Errigo; sister, Maritza Judith Lord; mother, Maria Dela Cruz Batista; and her father, Nathaniel Hill. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Flor Delis Hill; nieces, Susan Lord (Adrian) Moris, Julie (Jimmy) Bache, and Raquel Batista; nephews, Arnold (Kim) Lord, Wilberto (Dalys) Batista, and Edwin (Zoila) Batista; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family in the United States and Panama.
Raquel's journey through life was marked by numerous accomplishments and a vibrant spirit. She attended High School at the Liceo de Senoritas of Panama, graduating from the University of Panama with a degree in Administration. Raquel honed her talents at the Escuela de Teatro de Bellas Artes of Panama, specializing in Declamation. In her youth, she captivated audiences performing in soap operas, plays, dramas, and cultural presentations. Selected as a Princess in the Carnivals of Panama, Raquel radiated grace and charm. Known for her eloquence, she wrote and performed poetry for Presidents and Dignitaries. Raquel served as a Secretary for the Director of Finance in Panama. Alongside her husband and brother, Ricardo, she embarked on a memorable journey from Panama to the United States, stopping at every capital along the way, eventually settling in Fort Bragg.
Raquel's selfless dedication to others was evident in her 41 years of volunteer service with the American Red Cross. Fondly known as the "Tequila Lady," she brought joy to Womac Army Medical Center. Her infectious laughter, entertaining costumes, and treats lifted the spirits of those in need. Her commitment and enthusiasm earned her recognition, including being named Fort Bragg’s Volunteer of the Year in April 1995 and Fort Bragg/Pope AFB Red Cross Entertainer of the Year in 2004-2005.
Raquel will be remembered for her vibrant presence, and deep affection for family. She adored her nieces and nephews as her children, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and joy that will be dearly missed.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 5 to 7pm. The Prayer of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church from 11:45 am. A funeral mass will be held at 12:30 pm with Father Arturo presiding. Rite of committal to follow the mass at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Red Cross, North Carolina Region in Raquel’s name.
