Unborn child dies in shooting into occupied vehicle on Interstate 95

An unborn child was killed in a shooting into a vehicle on Interstate 95, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting was reported about 1 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release.

Investigators were called to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and told that a 2023 Toyota Camry carrying six people had been fired at near Exit 40 on I-95 North, the release said.

The shooting left the unborn child dead and three people with gunshot wounds. Two were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.

The suspect vehicle is reported to be a light-colored Chevrolet sedan.
