White Flag shelter locations will be open over the weekend for residents who need a place to escape freezing temperatures. The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures at or below freezing with the wind chill factor overnight and/or during the early morning hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights through the early morning hours of Monday, Jan. 22.
True Vine Ministries will open a White Flag shelter overnight on Friday, Jan. 19, Saturday, Jan. 20, and Sunday, Jan. 21. Overnight hours are from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. The True Vine shelter, known as the “J Center,” is located at 5315 Morganton Road, Fayetteville.
Transportation to the J Center will be provided from Cumberland County Headquarters Library at 300 Maiden Lane, Fayetteville, and the Fayetteville Day Resource Center at 128 S. King Street, Fayetteville. Patrons will be picked up from the designated locations between 5:45 and 7:30 p.m. and will be returned to those locations between 7 and 8:45 a.m. Dinner and breakfast will be provided.

The Salvation Army of the Sandhills Region will open a White Flag shelter overnight from Friday through the evening of Sunday, Jan. 21. The Salvation Army shelter is located at 245 Alexander Street, Fayetteville. Intake will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m., following dinner. The shelter will be open from 6:30 p.m. until 7 a.m. on White Flag nights. The shelter is available to single men, women and families.

Cornerstone Christian Empowerment Center will also open a White Flag shelter from Friday through Sunday, Jan. 21. Overnight hours are from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m. Cornerstone Christian Empowerment Center is located at 111 N. Bragg Blvd., Spring Lake. Intake will be from 6 to 11 p.m. Transportation will be provided back and forth from the Fayetteville Day Resource Center at 128 S. King Street, Fayetteville. Pick-up time is 6 p.m. and return time is 6:30 a.m. Dinner and breakfast will be provided at the shelter.

Cumberland County Emergency Services is closely monitoring weather conditions and is coordinating with Cumberland County Community Development and community partners as they make White Flag shelter determinations and preparations. Updates will be provided via press releases and social media.
In addition, Cumberland County, in partnership with the City of Fayetteville, will open government facilities as warming centers during business hours on Saturday, Jan. 20, for residents who do not have access to heat and need a place to get out of the cold.
The National Weather Service in Raleigh is forecasting temperatures with a wind chill below or just above freezing during the day on Saturday. As a result, the following locations are available as warming centers Saturday during normal business hours:
• All eight Cumberland County Public Library locations will be open as warming centers. Libraries are open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Headquarters Library at 300 Maiden Lane, Fayetteville, along with Cliffdale, North Regional, and Hope Mills branches are also open Sundays from 2 to 6 p.m. To find your local library, go to cumberlandcountync.gov/departments/library-group/library.
• The lobbies of Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Centers are open to the public year-round during normal operating hours and can be used as respite from the cold.
