Some lanes of Raeford Road near Ireland Drive will be closed starting next week for shoulder repairs, the N.C. Department of Transportation said. Erosion has damaged the shoulder and slope along Raeford Road where a culvert carries Buckhead Creek underneath the road, the Transportation Department said in a release. Maintenance crews plan to use dump trucks and excavators to add dirt and rip rap to the side of the road to make the repairs.

A 20-year-old Fayetteville man has been charged with having a gun on campus Friday at Pine Forest High School, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputy V. Singletary, a school resource officer with the Sheriff’s Office, found an unloaded Ruger LCP .380 and two live rounds of ammunition in an individual’s backpack on campus, the Sheriff’s Office said.
