Posted

The 82nd Airborne Division Headquarters will deploy from Fort Liberty to Eastern Europe this fall, the U.S. Department of the Army announced Friday.

Paratroopers  will replace soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division Headquarters and maintain the U.S. posture in the region, according to a news release.

The 10th Mountain Division is scheduled to return following a nine-month deployment that began in March.

“The 82nd Airborne Division is proud to once again answer our nation’s call to deter our adversaries and secure NATO’s eastern flank,” said Maj. Gen. Christopher LaNeve, commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division. “Our paratroopers are highly trained and capable to carry out this mission as we stand shoulder to shoulder with our European allies and partners in the region.”

According to the announcement, the deployment will mark the division’s second rotation in the region since its return from Eastern Europe in August 2022. The division will join other units on NATO’s Eastern flank in support of allies in Europe.
