Annexation and rezoning hearings also on the agenda

HOPE MILLS — The town board will consider three big-ticket projects and hear annexation and rezoning cases at its meeting Monday.

A public hearing is scheduled on a contiguous annexation of 32.44 acres on Muscat Road, which is part of the Sheffield Farms residential development.

A second hearing is schedule on a zoning case involving 2.3 acres on Chickenfoot Road that would change its planned commercial designation to more restrictive zoning. The rezoning request was submitted by the town on behalf of the landowner WAWA North Carolina.

Anyone who wishes to speak at the hearings must sign up with the town clerk prior to the meeting. Speakers are asked to limit their comments to three minutes.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

Along with the acceptance and approval of the July 2023 financial report, three projects that would cost tens of thousands each are listed on the board’s consent agenda.

They are:

  • Acceptance of a proposal from Brightly Software Inc. for development of a shared, web-based maintenance management system for the Parks & Recreation and Public Works departments. The cost should not exceed about $22,900, according to the agenda packet.
  • Acceptance of a proposal for replacement of an heating and air conditioning unit at the Parks & Recreation offices. The cost should not exceed $28,225.
  • Acceptance of a proposal from Gill Security Systems for installation and replacement of the fire and security alarm system at the town recreation center. The cost should not exceed just over $30,000.

All items on the board’s consent agenda are considered routine and generally approved without discussion.
