The Hope Mills Board of Commissioners will hear a proposal at its meeting Monday for an upgrade to the skatepark at Hope Mills Municipal Park.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Town Hall, 5770 Rockfish Road. A public comment period will give residents a combined 30 minutes to share their concerns.
According to the meeting agenda, the Hope Mills Parks & Recreation Department began discussions about improvements to the skatepark in fall 2022, in partnership with Friends of the Skateparks Foundation, “to promote skateboarding, increase participation, enhance the quality of skateboarding parks and educate.”
The foundation has helped build parks in Elizabethtown, Mooresville, Fayetteville, Clayton, Spartanburg, Southern Pines, Myrtle Beach and Whiteville.
In April, the Parks and Recreation Department formalized the partnership with FSF by requesting that it provide a proposal and cost estimate for the design and construction of upgrades to at Municipal Park, the agenda packet states.
The cost is estimated between about $581,000 and $953,000, with funding coming partly from the town, fundraisers, sponsorships and donations.
