Man, woman charged with murder in 2021 death of man in Fayetteville

Fayetteville police have arrested two people on charges of murder in the death of a man in 2021.

Officers with the U.S. Marshals Service on Thursday arrested Damaryia Mack, 20, of the 3900 block of Independence Boulevard in Wilmington, according to the Fayetteville Police Department. She was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kotasha Griffith, 27, on July 23, 2021, in the 300 block of Post Avenue in Fayetteville.

On Monday, marshals arrested Jamel Brunson, 21, of the 800 block of Orange Street in Fayetteville. Brunson was also charged with first-degree murder in Griffith’s death, a news release said.

Griffith’s body was found in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. He had been shot at least once, the release said. 

In addition to murder, Brunson and Mack are charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle and felony conspiracy.

Brunson and Mack are being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center with no bond, the release said.
