DOT awards contract for Rosehill Road roundabouts

Posted

The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $2.7 million contract to convert two intersections in north Fayetteville to roundabouts.  The circular designs will be constructed on Rosehill Road at Tamarack Drive and Landau Drive, according to a news release.

The project was based on a review by DOT of crash patterns and traffic data, the release said.

The contractor, JYMCO Construction Co. of Smithfield, will establish a timeline for construction of the traffic circles, the release said. The construction will require the temporary closure of the two intersections next summer when school is out.

The contractor will build what the department refers to as mini-roundabouts, which are smaller than the typical roundabout and fit within the existing right of way. These smaller designs have been shown to reduce injury and deadly crashes by 59%, according to a 2021 study by UNC-Charlotte conducted for DOT, the release said.

This NCDOT website illustrates the ease of navigating roundabouts.
