Patrick Charles Payson, 86, of Fayetteville passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. He was born on March 17, 1937, in Pennsylvania to Charles and Dorothy Payson.
Patrick is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sonja Payson; son, Joseph A. Payson of Fayetteville, NC; and parents, Charles, and Dorothy Payson. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Jennifer Payson Walters of Eastover; son, Michael Payson of Fayetteville; son, Jimmie Dixon and wife, Brenda of Kentucky; grandson, Brandon Payson and wife, Sarvi Payson of Raleigh; grandson, David Dixon and wife, Emily of Kentucky; granddaughters, Katie Walters, Alison Walters of Eastover and Toi Carter and husband, Randall of Kentucky; and grandson, Matthew Walters of Eastover; and son in law, Steven Walters.
Patrick joined the Army in 1955, serving over 20 years with multiple assignments throughout the United States and Europe. During his career as a paratrooper, he was awarded the Expert Infantryman Badge and two Bronze Stars for his combat tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1975 as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 with the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg.
Patrick was an avid golfer who managed The Golf Practice Range in Fayetteville, NC, for 10 years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Patrick Catholic Church at 11 Am on Friday, March 1, 2024. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Burial to follow the service at Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery.
