On Tuesday, June 21, 2022 Ronald Gilmer Blackwelder, loving husband and proud father of two daughters, passed away at the age of 79. Ron was born on April 24, 1943 in Norfolk, VA to Gilmer and Ikey (Howard) Blackwelder. After serving in the Air Force, Ron followed in his father’s footsteps and began a career in the construction industry, building homes. On November, 29, 1975, he married Joanne Rodwell. They raised two daughters, Tyler Anne and Evan. Ron was a highly skilled master craftsman and was well respected by his colleagues and clients. There was never a project too large or too small that he wouldn’t tackle with precision and integrity. He was proud to serve two years as the President of the Home Builders Association of Fayetteville and enjoyed being a part of the Tech Ministry at Syder MBC. When he wasn’t working, you could often find Ron on the golf course or enjoying a good bourbon with his buddies. Ron was preceded in death by his father G.W., his mother Ikey, and his sister Leigh Helms. He is survived by his wife Joanne, his daughters Tyler Freeman (Chris) and Evan, his niece Casey Carter Sortini, his two great-nieces and a great-nephew. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC, at 11 o’clock a.m. Visitation begins at 10 o’clock a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Fayetteville Area Operation Inasmuch.
