Tax bills mailed to Cumberland residents; payment options available

Posted

Cumberland County tax bills were mailed to property owners on Aug. 11, according to a county news release.

The deadline to pay 2023 property taxes is Jan. 5. After that, a 2% interest charge will be assessed the first month and a 0.75% interest charge each month thereafter, beginning Feb. 1, the news release said.

Taxpayers may pay their bills online, by mail, by phone or in person. To pay online with an electronic check, debit card or credit card, go to cumberlandcountync.gov/tax. A credit or debit card convenience fee will be charged. There is no fee for an electronic check.

To pay by phone, call 866-441-6614. Phone payments must be made with a major credit card or debit card, and a convenience fee is charged.

Taxpayers can set up an online payment option with their financial institution. The tax office says it is important to verify and update the tax bill number on file with their bank because it can change annually, the release said.

Tax Administration now offers another contactless option for making check or money order tax payments and for submitting tax listings and forms. A secure drop box has been placed beside the mailboxes outside the Cumberland County Courthouse’s back parking lot facing Cool Spring and Russell streets.

Do not put cash payments in the drop box; use only checks and money orders, the news release said.

Mail payments with a remittance coupon to: Cumberland County Tax Collector, P.O. Box 538313, Atlanta, GA 30353-8313.

Mail payments without a remittance coupon to: Cumberland County Tax Collector, P.O. Box 449, Fayetteville, NC 28302-0449.

Mailed payments must be made with a check or money order payable to Cumberland County Tax Collector.

Payments can be made in person at the Tax Administration office on the fifth floor of the courthouse from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. The office accepts payments with cash, check, money order, and major credit and debit cards. A convenience fee is charged.

A payment plan option form is included with tax bills for taxpayers who want to make monthly payments, the release said. The form should be submitted with the first payment.
