Toddler reported missing now in custody of Sheriff’s Office

Posted

A man wanted for questioning in the case of a missing toddler in Linden handed her over to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday night.

Lawrence America, who had been sought in the toddler’s disappearance, called the Sheriff’s Office about 11:15 p.m. Saturday and said he had custody of Raylee Marie Reed, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

The Sheriff’s Office said Raylee is safe, according to the release.

Lawrence and Brandy America are cooperating with the investigation.

Investigators say that Raylee was last seen on July 14 in a gray Nissan Titan driven by Lawrence America at 6254 Crocket Raynor Road in Linden.

In July 2022, Raylee was placed in the care of family member Violet Reed, who was living at 6254 Crocket Raynor Road in Linden. On Aug. 8, custody rights were revoked, and Violet Reed no longer has legal custody of Raylee Reed.
