Two people face drug and child abuse charges after police say a concerned resident reported a tip to Fayetteville/Cumberland CrimeStoppers about suspicious activity at a home.

As a result of the tip, officers seized 48.5 pounds of marijuana, a handgun, drug paraphernalia and more than $5,900, the Fayetteville Police Department said in a release Thursday.

The location of the residence was not included in the release. Officer Jeremy Strickland, a spokesman for the department, said the department was not ready to release that information.

Casion Dontrice Murphy, 28, and Tateanna Jurnasia Cartrette, 23, both of Fayetteville, were arrested. Their addresses, the same as the location of the seizure, were not provided in the release.

Each was charged with three counts of trafficking in marijuana, two counts of misdemeanor child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and one count of conspiracy to traffic in marijuana and maintaining a dwelling.

Cartrette also was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the release said.

The Police Department said the tipster will be eligible for a cash reward from the CrimeStoppers program.

Citizen involvement in Crimestoppers makes our community a safer place to live, work, and play,’’ police said in the release.

Residents can call CrimeStoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477) if they have information regarding criminal activity.
